Housing prices rise 4.4% in 2013 in England and WalesAccording to the latest figures released, the housing prices have increased in England and Wales by around 4.4 per cent during the year, 2013.

The data also showed that the housing prices rise the highest at around 9 per cent in London during the good year for the housing market backed by support schemes from the government and increasing demand. Demand for housing units remained much higher than availability and this pushed up prices across the UK including in southern England.

The demand for hosing rose 25 per cent and the supply rose just 6 per cent during the year. The survey from Hometrack showed that price rise of 4.4 per cent comes after a fall of 0.3 per cent drop in 2012. The survey showed that the fall in demand during the month of December did not affect the rise in housing prices but average prices up 0.5 per cent over the month.

The demand for the housing remained high due to low mortgage rates, pent-up demand and more positive news. Hometrack pointed out that the Help to Buy scheme was the key factor in helping revive demand for the housing units in the country.
