Hong Kong  - Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang is to lead a delegation of officials from the former British colony on a visit to earthquake-struck Sichuan on Friday, a government spokesman said Monday.

Beijing-appointed Tsang will spend three days visiting the Sichuan disaster areas and discussing with provincial officials how Hong Kong can help the reconstruction effort, the spokesman said.

He will be joined on his visit by ministers including Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Stephen Lam and Secretary for Development Carrie Lam.

Hong Kong people donated millions of US dollars to the relief effort following the May earthquake, which attracted huge individual donations from some of the city's richest men including tycoon Li Ka-shing.

Hong Kong was a British colony for 156 years before reverting to Chinese sovereignty under a 'one country, two systems' arrangement in July 1997. (dpa)
