Honda issues recall of 777,000 Pilots and Odysseys due to airbag problem

Honda issues recall of 777,000 Pilots and Odysseys due to airbag problemIn a January 18 announcement, automaker Honda Motor revealed that it is issuing a voluntary recall of 777,000 Pilot and Odyssey vehicles; with the recall affecting 748,000 vehicles in the US and 29,000 in Canada.

According to the recall-related details shared by Honda, the Pilot and Odyssey vehicles affected by the recall include Honda Pilot SUVs of model years 2009-2013, and Honda Odyssey mini-vans of models years 2011-2013.

About the airbag problem which has prompted the recall, Honda said that there is a potential issue in the driver-side airbags in the Pilot and Odyssey models affected by the recall. The automaker elaborated that the airbags have probably been assembled without some of the rivets which are required for securing their plastic covers.

As a result of the seemingly faulty assembling of the airbags, their proper deployment in case of a crash is hampered; thereby increasing the risks of an injury. However, there have thus far been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the airbag problem of the Pilots and Odysseys under recall.

Nonetheless, Honda said that the affected owners of the Pilot and Odyssey models will be notified about the airbag issue, via mail, from mid-February onwards. The automaker also added that the affected owners should take their vehicles to a dealer as soon as they receive notification.
