Hockey players to meet Suresh Kalmadi

The negotiations between the administrators and the players, who are protesting for non-payment of their 2009 dues, were unsuccessful at Pune.

Following this, Wednesday saw IOA president Suresh Kalmadi rushing to have word with the players at camp with the aim of making peace between them and Hockey India.

There are chances for the crisis in the Indian hockey to get even worse; however, the 21-players are agreeing on revolting and supporting the seniors over the pay issue.

The junior team’s skipper, V Raghunath said that since the players are demanding for what is due, they are with them.

As of now, ‘thirty-one member junior development squad’ is running after the rebel senior players. Tuesday night witnessed a meeting in Lucknow on the sidelines of their camp, where the probables were firm for not heeding Hockey India's request in case they are asked to back the seniors.

The juniors have now agreed to support the seniors since the Hockey India officials threatened to prohibit the rebel players and choose second string side for the upcoming World Cup in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Indian hockey team sponsor Sahara India has tried to provide support by releasing Rs one crore immediately to resolve the payment dispute.

Indian Olympic Committee officials Harish Sharma, Rajeev Mehta, Olympian Jagbir Singh, Narendra Batra besides Mattoo attended the meeting on Tuesday. The memting also saw the presence of Vice-president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Antonio van Ondarza, along with all the coaches with the entire 22 probables attending the camp.
