Hindustan Unilever reports better than expected fourth quarter earningsIndia's largest fast moving consumer goods company, Hindustan Unilever have reported a better than expected earnings in the fourth quarter.

The company reported an 21 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 687 crore backed by strong growth in all segments. Analysts had expected HUL to report a net profit of Rs 649 crore in the quarter, according to a poll conducted by CNBC-TV18.

The net sales of the company increased 16 per cent from a year ago to Rs 5,660.5 crore. The company reported a 10.1% volume growth in the domestic business during the quarter, which allowed the company to per higher than expected earnings.

The company's soaps and detergents recorded a growth of 28 per cent while personal products segment grew 17 per cent in the quarter. The company's EBITDA increased 153 basis points in the quarter. Analysts said that slow growth in beverages and processed foods in the quarter was disappointing for the company.

The shares of the company increased 4 per cent to touch 52-week high of Rs 433.90 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after the company announced the fourth quarter results on Wednesday.
