High Capacity Power Transmission Corridors to Be Set in Seven Regions of IndiaIt has been reported that soon the regions of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh will get power from the proposed project of High Capacity Power Transmission Corridors. However, it will take about five years for the project in the proposed regions to complete.

It has been told that for the project, the Power Grid Corporation of India has set aside Rs 58,000 crore. Power Grid Chairman and Managing Director, S K Chaturvedi has informed that at the present, the Power Grid has an order book of about Rs 1,20,000 crore. He also said that Power Grid will be first tested at the corporation’s earth station at Bina in Madhya Pradesh over a 1.6 km line for one year.

The project is huge and will require large funds. S K Chaturvedi said, “To meet the requirements, we will be raising funds through all routes including external commercial borrowings, loans, internal accruals, suppliers’ credit, etc”.

It has been told that the Power Grid will produce a maximum of 1, 00,000 mw power in the 12th Plan. Currently, the Power Grid has the transmission capacity of about 93,400 MVA and owes 83,400 Kms of transmission lines.
