Hertha suspend Ebert following vandalism incident
Berlin - Bundesliga leaders Hertha Berlin confirmed Thursday that they have suspended German Under-21 international Patrick Ebert following a late-night incident in the German capital in which several cars were damaged.
Ebert and former Hertha player Kevin-Prince Boateng, who is now with Borussia Dortmund, were allegedly seen scratching at least one car and damaging the wing mirrors of five others as the pair were on a night out celebrating Ebert's 22nd birthday.
Police confirmed "an incident" in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the district of Wilmersdorf.
"He's gone too far this time," said Hertha coach Lucien Favre when explaining the decision to relegate Ebert to training with Hertha's Under-23 team.
Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness said the player would also have to pay a "substantial fine" for the indiscipline and unprofessional conduct of being out in the early hours. (dpa)
