Happy 25th Birthday, Hubble Space Telescope!

The Hubble Space Telescope sent back its first photo of outer space 25 years ago. Since then, Hubble has provided the most detailed images of our solar system, our galaxy, and the universe.

From time to time, Hubble has provided some amazing photos of nebulas, distant galaxies, supernovas and interstellar clouds. These photos have amazed all of us and it is expected that it will continue to do so till the end of the decade.

On April 24, 1990, things changed when the Hubble Space Telescope was launched from Kennedy Space Centre. Before the telescope was launched, ancient stargazers and astronomers such as Galileo and Copernicus had to make observations through blurred view through earth’s atmosphere.

But things changed with the launch of Hubble. When the telescope provided the first images, it was beyond the wildest expectations of its designers. Hubble has changed the way people think about the universe.

The data provided by the telescope has been the foundation of more than 12,800 research papers and also, the data majorly contributed in cosmology.

Any astronomer from across the globe can ask for ‘time’ on the telescope, named after American astronomer Edwin Hubble. The telescope can see forth and back time and space.

Placed outside’s earth atmosphere, Hubble has an amazing visual ability. Owing to its placement, it has allowed to see the birth of stars and also provide clues on how planets are formed.

The Hubble’s journey is expected not to end before 2020. When its journey will end, it will fall out of orbit and plunge to earth. But by 2018, another instrument, the James Webb Telescope, will be launched.
