Gracy Singh to enact Tagore’s Shyama on stage
After enthralling the audiences with her graceful moves in the song 'Radha kaise na jale' from 'Lagaan', actress Gracy Singh is all set to mesmerise the audience in Kolkata with Rabindranath Tagore's famous dance ballet 'Shyama'.
The ballet - scheduled for November 16 - will be presented in the dance form of Bharatnatyam. It is a poignant narration of a court dancer, Shyama, falling in love with Bajrasen, a foreign merchant. The ballet entails emotions of eternal love, temptation and manipulation in the name of love.
For Gracy, who happens to be a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, the prospect of showing her dancing skill in 'Shyama' is exciting, yet also challenging at the same time.
The actress said: "I have done Bharatnatyam shows before, but I always wanted to do a ballet since that gives an opportunity to dance as well as act. Both are my passions. So I'm really happy that I got an opportunity to do this."
Gracy has been a part of hit films like 'Lagaan', 'GangaaJal' and 'Munnabhai MBBS'. She has also been actively associated with regional cinema.
Her next flick is the controversial film 'Deshdrohi'. About her association with the film, Gracy said: "I decided to be a part of this project since the film evokes patriotic feelings and is a very unique and bold story. It is an interesting subject and a theme to which every man will identify."
