Government raises LPG cap to 9 cylinders

Government raises LPG cap to 9 cylindersThe central government has announced its decision to raise the limit placed on supply of subsidised cooking gas (LPG) to nine cylinders per household every year from six cylinders earlier.

Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily said, "The CCPA considered the issue of raising the cap from six to nine and the CCPA has agreed and raised the cap from six cylinders per household in a year to nine."

Moily said that the decision to limit the total number of subsidized LPG to 6 per year per household has been under consideration and the government has finally decided to increase the limit to 9 cylinders. He said that the cylinders beyond six in year are being sold at the rate of Rs 895.50 per 14.2-kg bottle in Delhi. Following the decision, the oil companies are reefing records to check customers with multiple connections.

Customers have been asked to submit the Know-Your-Customer (KYC) form to LPG distributors. The move is aimed at avoiding the bypassing of the new restrictions by users in the country. Consumers were allowed to purchase six cylinders per year at subsidized rates and beyond the, the cylinders were priced at market price.

The government also more or less deregulated diesel prices allowing small hikes in the prices.
