Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences is going to organize a two-day event, July 21 and 22, 2015. A Vatican symposium on climate change and human trafficking aims to encourage local awareness, dialogue and action on climate change.

In the symposium, California Gov. Jerry Brown and Pope Francis will be present. Both of them believe that steps are needed to tackle climate change. Brown has all the praise for Pope Francis. He stated that he is quite impressed with the pope and where his leadership is taking the church.

"The pope is engaging in moral authority and calling people to reflect on the basis of those considerations. This is desperately needed to counteract the iron logic of the marketplace, which is only dealing with profit", affirmed Brown.

Brown strongly believes that to come to a conclusion in Paris, there is a need to make grass-roots efforts by religious leaders and states and provinces. He thinks that more steps need to be taken to add pressure on national leaders to achieve more on the agenda than what they have been achieving.

Rev. Michael Russo, a professor at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga said that Brown and Pope Francis are of almost same age, the former one 77 and the latter one 78. And, they also have Jesuit backgrounds so all these factors give them 'an interesting sense of generation'.
