Google, Samsung to launch new devices on ChromeOS platformInternet giant, Google and south Korean electronics giant, Samsung are planning to launch new devices based on the ChromeOS platform in order to attract more users to the platform.

Samsung might soon launch a laptop and a desktop box system based on the platform. The platform has not attracted a huge number of users but it is believed that it has enough advantages to become a competitor in the operating system market.

Linus Upson, Google's vice president of engineering and Caesar Sengupta, director of product management made the announcement in the paltform’s haiku form. The said that the company launched a new kind of computer in the previous year and this is a next step in that direction.

Both Samsung and Acer are offering ChromeOS laptops in the market. Samsung has updated its offering with the 12.1 inch Series 5 550, running an Intel Celeron 867 1.3GHz processor with a 16GB solid state drive and 4GB of RAM. The users can choose between a 3G version that will be offered with two years of free monthly data rations or another device with Wi-Fi to enhance connectivity. The device costs about $449.

The Series 3 Chromebox is the company’s first desktop ChromeOS system that comes in a small 19 x 19 x 3.3cm package. The Chromebox comes with Celeron B840 processor, 4Gb of RAM, a DisplayPort and six USB sockets. It costs about $329 but it requires accessories that may drive up the costs.
