Google rolls out two new map APIs for enterprisesIn an evident attempt to give enterprises the capability of creating their own location-enabled applications, Internet search bigwig Google rolled out a couple of new APIs to its Google Maps service last week.

The two new map APIs which Google announced last Wednesday included the Maps Tracks API and the Maps Geolocation API. Both the new APIs have been particularly designed with the aim of enabling organizations to keep a track of the location of vehicles, mobile resources, as well as workers.

Both the newly-announced map APIs - which make use of JSON for request and response formats - can be accessed by using clear-cut HTTPS and POST commands.

According to the new API-related details shared by Google, the Maps Tracks API chiefly helps users to analyse route efficiency, as it brings on to Google Maps the tracking-related data which is collected the GPS mechanism on the vehicles. The API boasts `Geofencing' capabilities that enable the developers to build apps which can store, display and analyze GPS data Google Maps.

Meanwhile, the other new API - the Maps Geolocation API - largely provides real-time access to the large chunks of non-GPS data which has been collected by Google; thereby giving the apps or devices the ability to ascertain their location in places where GPS may not be available. As per Google, this API assists organizations in developing "customized location-based applications to meet specific business needs."
