Google planning $99 Nexus tablet; 32GB Nexus 7 may launch in time for holidays

Google planning $99 Nexus tablet; 32GB Nexus 7 may launch in time for holidaysAccording to a new Digitimes report, citing the information shared by "Taiwan-based supply chain makers," Internet search giant Google is planning to take the wraps off a $99-priced version of its Nexus tablet in the 2012 fourth quarter.

Going by the Digitimes sources, $99 Nexus tablet version will feature a HUVA TN panel from Taiwan's HannStar Display, and will be powered by a single-core processor from China-based WonderMedia Technologies.

The sources also revealed that the cheaper Nexus tablet which Google is working on will be manufactured by Quanta Computer rather than Asus, which produces the current versions of the Nexus 7 tablet, starting at $199. Asus has told Digitimes that it has no intentions of manufacturing the lower-priced Nexus tablet.

Meanwhile, so far as the Google Nexus 7 tablet is concerned, a separate report by TeckComesFirst has drawn attention to a circular from UK-based retailer Argos, which hinted at the possibility of a 32GB version of Nexus 7 hitting the markets in time for the holiday shopping season. The 32GB Nexus 7 version was advertised by Argos in its gift guide for the holidays.

The TeckComesFirst report included a scanned page of the guide which showed that a 32GB Asus-manufactured Nexus 7 will cost £200; the same price-tag as the 16GB Nexus 7 in the UK. However, TeckComesFirst also pointed out that the £15 Google Play store credit which is available with the 16GB version Nexus 7 version has been given a miss in the 32GB version.
