GMR Group Undergoes Organizational Re-Alignment
Bangalore: Speedy development in various key segments has coerced the Rs 30,000-crore infrastructure major GMR group to undertake a substantial restructuring programme, which will notice the fundamentally family governance model becoming more professed.
GM Rao, Group chairman will now move from routine functioning to concentrate on the big policy picture, management and the latest IGI Airport. Four key people - two sons, a son-in-law and a close lieutenant - will lead separate business organizations, which will have expert CEOs.
“The change is a move by the GMR group to capture the attractive opportunities emerging in the infrastructure sector, both in India and abroad. Two-thirds of the $475 billion earmarked for infrastructure development in India over the next five years will be in GMR’s areas of focus. This will be in addition to international opportunities,” declared a group statement, while expecting that the operating asset block will step-up multifold over the next five years, from around $900 million presently.
“This kind of a quantum leap places a huge responsibility on the management towards its various stakeholders. This restructuring is an important step to take the group forward, empower professional managers and develop a strong leadership base for the group. This change is the result of a substantial seven month long effort,” GM Rao said.
Individual business chairpersons will be responsible for businesses or functions portfolio. Son-in-law B Srinivas, currently the MD of Delhi International Airports Pvt Ltd (DIAL), will now be chairman of urban infrastructure and highways, comprising the SEZ business Son GBS Raju, presently group CFO, will now be chairman corporate, responsible for segments like HR and finance. In addition, he will look after the International Business Section like Sabiha Gocken Airport project in Istanbul, Turkey.
The other son, Kiran Grandhi, currently MD of the new Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad, will now be chairman airports and watch out GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL), Delhi International Airport (DIAL), and airport business development.
Now BVN Rao, close lieutenant, who is group director, will now be chairman energy and agri (the sugar manufacturing business) of the group.
