Global Warming Melting Arctic Ice

Global Warming Melting Arctic IceScientists with the help of data collected from the satellites have revealed that ice of Arctic sea is melting. It has been told that the scientists collected data from the European Space Agency's CryoSat spacecraft.

In recent years, scientists have consistently warned that the sea ice extent will shrink dramatically in the decades to come, primarily as a result of global climate change. These warnings are based on models and observations of the sea ice extent — that is how much of the Arctic Ocean the ice covers.

While explaining the procedure of global warming, Cryosat mission's principal investigator, Professor Duncan Wingham said, “Some years the wind will push the ice out of the way or pile it up, and it may look from the area coverage like it's all melted”. A scientist told that 90% if the sea ice in underwater. By measuring the density of the remaining 10% ice one can roughly calculate the density of the ice under the water.

Scientists have been working for long to measure the thickness of the ice in sea by using NASA's IceSat but it hasn’t proved that helpful. The new device provides reliable data. It gives continuous information about yearly changes in the thickness of the ice.
