German pilots see two-day Lufthansa subsidiaries strike as success

Berlin - German pilots union Cockpit expressed satisfaction Wednesday with a strike targeting Lufthansa subsidiaries CityLine and Eurowings as it entered its second and last day.

"We are satisfied at the solidarity among the pilots," Cockpit spokeswoman Ilona Ritter told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

The two short-haul airlines cancelled more than 400 flights Tuesday, and more than 500 cancellations were expected Wednesday.

The 36-hour strike for higher pay was due to end midnight Wednesday.

The airlines said they had transferred many passengers to other flights. Passengers on domestic German flights could use their tickets on the national rail network. (dpa)
