Georgia's Eurovision song entry takes swipe at Putin

Vladimir PutinMoscow/Tbilisi - Georgia elected a snappy disco tune that takes a swipe at Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for its Eurovision contest song entry hosted by Moscow this year.

Georgia had initially said it would boycott the song contest after its war with Russia in August, but has opted instead for a soft-power punch.

"We Don't Wanna Put In" belted out by the group Stefan & 3Gs is a rather bald play on words on the Russian premier's name.

The band's performance in full 80s style mimics being shot in the head to the words: "We don't want to put in/ The negative move/ It's killing the groove."

The Georgian entry is unlikely to draw a cheering response in Moscow, which is hosting the competition after Russia won last year in Serbia.

"I think, the song will provoke a unique reaction in Moscow, since it has a definite political character," one of the panel's jurors was quoted by news agency Interfax as saying after the vote late Wednesday.

The year before, Georgia's Eurovision entry was "Peace Will Come" sung by Diana Gurtskaya, a blind refugee its Russian-backed breakaway region of Abkhazia. (dpa)
