Mom's beliefs influence their child's future alcohol useWashington, Sept 19: Researchers from Iowa State University have identified a strong link between mother's beliefs and their child's alcohol use in future, and insist that positive thinking by moms may limit their children's alcohol use.

The team led by Stephanie Madon, an ISU associate professor of psychology found that mother's beliefs regarding her child's likelihood of using alcohol might have a strong impact on the kids' alcohol use in future.

1 in 7 Brit kids can't write their own names!London, Sept 19: One in seven children struggles to write his or her own name after a year at primary school, show official figures.

The Government analysis of 556,000 children showed that almost 80,000 five-year-olds struggle to hold a pen properly or form basic words such as "mum", "dad" and "cat".

Thousands more cannot say the alphabet or count to ten.

The figures were made at the end of the foundation stage before the kids move into Year One.

Brit Iranian police chief suspended over misconduct allegations

London, Sept. 19 : Controversial Scotland Yard police chief Ali Dizaei has been suspended over allegations of misconduct.

Iranian-born Dizaei is being investigated over several separate claims, including one complaint about an allegation he made about being assaulted in a row with a man outside a restaurant in London.

He was suspended after "very careful consideration" after a meeting of the professional standards committee of the Metropolitan Police Authority, which oversees the running of Britain''s biggest force, reports The Telegraph.

Scotland Yard insiders said that the gravity of the claim made the suspension inevitable.

The suspension is likely to deepen a racial crisis at the Yard.

Base Price Of Edible Oils Kept Intact By The Govt.

For the second fortnight of this month, the Govt. has decided to keep the base prices Edible Oilof the edible oils unchanged. The Govt. had earlier removed duty on crude edible oil. Refined oil extracts 7.5 percent duty for all varieties like soyabean, palm and sunflower.  

Back in august 2001, the concept of fortnightly revision of tariff values for calculating customs duty was initiated to stem the losses in due to the wrongdoings of the importers.

With the aim to keep cooking oil prices in the nation low, since July 2006, the base prices of palm oil products have not been changed. Palm oil products account for majority of edible oil imports.

The 4 million people of Sydney were warned Friday that their children could be gobbled by leopards, panthers, cougars or other big cats that have escaped from zoos.

"I don't think it's necessarily an urban myth," Nathan Rees, the premier of New South Wales, said when commenting on reports that exotic animals were prowling the fringes of Australia's biggest city.

Rees, who is just two weeks into the job, was immediately accused of a scaremongering to distract attention from the scandals plaguing his government.
