London, Sept 20: Michelangelo's statue of David in Florence is "at risk of collapse" because of its exposure to mass tourism, say Italian experts.

According to Antonio Borri, professor of construction engineering at Perugia University and part of the team monitoring the statue's state of conservation, the cracks which been repaired during a 2004 restoration marking the 500th anniversary of the statue's creation had re-appeared.

Beijing - A fire killed at least five people and trapped 27 others underground Saturday at a coal mine in north-eastern China's Heilongjiang province, the government said.

Forty-four miners were working underground and 12 escaped after the fire broke out around 3:30 am (1930 GMT Friday) at the Fuhua mine in Hegang city, the State Administration of Work Safety said on its website.

Rescuers had recovered five bodies by Saturday afternoon and were still searching for the other missing miners, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Hong Kong - A pilot and his co-pilot have been suspended after they tried to take off from a taxiway rather than a runway at Hong Kong International Airport, investigators said Saturday.

An air traffic controller raised the alarm when he saw a South Korea-bound Hong Kong Airlines Boeing 737 carrying 122 passengers hurtling down a taxiway running parallel to the airport's north runway.

New Delhi, Sep 19: Liquid milk sold by three leading Chinese companies is contaminated with melamine, leading to four infant deaths caused by the chemical.

The fourth death was reported from the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Thursday. Two kids in Gansu and one in Zhejiang had fallen victim to contaminated milk earlier.

A total of 6,244 infants who were fed contaminated milk food produced by Sanlu Group have been diagnosed with various urinary tract problems, including kidney stones.

Police in Shijiazhuang, where Sanlu is based, said 12 people were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the milk food scandal, taking the total number of arrests to 18, the China Daily reported.
