Zambia's election commissionLusaka - Despite leading in most polls, Zambia's main opposition party Saturday called for a delay in the announcement of presidential election results, citing irregularities in the handling of the results.

Given Lubinda, spokesman for the Patriotic Front (PF) called on Zambia's election commission (ECZ) to immediately stop the announcement of the election winner.

Lubinda told journalists Saturday that his party has credible information that the elections have been rigged and the opposition party will not accept the outcome.

Malegaon blast accused undergo polygraph tests

Some of the accused had the tests performed on them on Friday, according to reports.

However, narco-analysis was still to be performed on them.

Five persons, including the god woman, have been arrested for planting a motorcycle bomb in Maharashtra’s Malegaon town, which claimed six lives.

Fugitive Thai premier addresses mass rally in Bangkok

Thaksin Shinawatra Bangkok - Thailand's fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra on Saturday addressed a crowd of more than 60,000 supporters in a phoned-in call in which he said only a "royal pardon" or "people's power" could bring him back to Thailand.

On October 21 the Supreme Court for Political Office Holders sentenced Thaksin to two years in jail for abusing his power as prime minister in 2003 by allowing his wife to purchase a plot of land at a government auction.

UN Chief for Bangladesh's peaceful transition to democracy

Dhaka, BangladeshDhaka - The United Nations wants Bangladesh hold a credible parliamentary election next month for a peaceful transition to democracy, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Saturday.

"I have expressed my sincere wish that this parliamentary election will be held in a more fair and objective and credible way that Bangladesh can have very smooth and peaceful transition to democracy," the UN chief told reporters after a meeting with Bangladesh foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.

He hoped that Dhaka's leadership in the government and political parties will cooperate in the matter.
