Brit troops death toll in Afghanistan and Iraq hits 300

London, Nov 14 : The British military death toll in Afghanistan and Iraq has hit 300 when two Royal Marines were killed in an explosion in Helmand province. The deaths bring the total killed in Afghanistan to 124, while 176 have died on active service in Iraq since operations began.

The marines, from UK Landing Force Command Support Group, were taking part in a joint patrol with soldiers from Afghan security forces when an explosive device in the Garmsir district of Southern Helmand struck their vehicle on Thursday.

The Ministry of Defence said that next of kin have been informed and asked for a 24-hour period of grace before more information is released.

Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, 41, told the jury that on the night Hannah went missing near Southampton, in 2003, he was bundled into a car by three men before being forced to have sex with a woman he now believes was Hannah.

Kohli portrayed himself as a victim of revenge, saying a colleague to whom he owed 16,000 pound targeted him.

Mexico City - A journalist reporting on organized crime was shot and killed in a town on Mexico's border with the United States, adding to a climate of fear as many media outlets refuse to cover drug-related violence.

Armando Rodriguez was shot and killed Thursday by unidentified gunmen as he dropped his daughter off at school in the northern city of Ciudad Juarez, the El Diario newspaper said on its website.

Rodriguez had worked more than 14 years for the paper in an increasingly fearful environment as gangland violence increases, making Mexico one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists.
