Lahore, Nov 14 : A top cop in Gujranwala town in Pakistan has reportedly directed the local cablewallahs not to air Indian entertainment channel “Star Plus” because programmes running on this channel hurt conservative or religious sentiments.
But, the cable operators have complained against the move saying that their business largely depended on this particular channel, as it was immensely popular in Pakistani households.
Beijing - Four young women died Friday after jumping from a sixth-floor dormitory to escape a fire at a college in Shanghai, state media said.
The students "apparently panicked amid flames and thick smoke" after the fire broke out in their shared room at the Shanghai Business School, the official Xinhua news agency quoted local police as saying.
The two local women and two women from neighbouring provinces all died immediately upon hitting the ground, the agency said.
Taipei - Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou said Friday that the Taiwan Strait is no longer a flashpoint because both Taipei and Beijing are striving for peace.

An American team of researchers has identified eight genes that may play a significant role in leukemia. The study carried out at Washington University in St Louis, by Richard Wilson, who attributed the breakthrough to a fast pace of whole-genome sequencing that is now available at a low price. Wilson said the genes that cause other illness and diseases may also be discovered soon, which will help scientists not only understand the disease but to find a treatment for it as well.
Washington, Nov 14: Researchers at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor have discovered for the first time how bleach kills household bugs.
The boffins have explained in the November 14th issue of the journal Cell, a Cell Press publication that they have found the effect of hypochlorous acid, the active ingredient contained in bleach, causes the unfolding of proteins in bacteria in much the same was that heat stress or fever does.
