Three civilians slain in Muslim rebel attacks in Philippines Cotabato City, Philippines  - Three civilians, including a five-year-old boy, were killed in an attack by Muslim separatist rebels in the southern Philippines, police said Friday.

The attack occurred Thursday in Midsayap town in North Cotabato province, 930 kilometres south of Manila, according to town police chief Inspector Renante Cabico.

Cabico said an undetermined number of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels attacked a military outpost in Midsayap and indiscriminately opened fire as they withdrew.

One American soldier among 9 killed in suicide attack on US convoy in Afghanistan

Kabul, Nov 14: At least nine persons, including one US soldier and nine Afghan civilians, were killed Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, when a suicide car bomber struck a US military convoy.

Around 74 civilians were wounded in the attack, the Daily Times quoted a US military spokesman as saying.

In a separate incident, two British troops were killed on Wednesday in an explosion in Helmand province’s Garmser district, said in a statement released by Britain’s Defence Ministry.

Scientists solve 77-million-year old ‘dino fossil’ mystery

Washington, Nov 14: Scientists have solved a 77-million-year old mystery of a unique fossilized nest and eggs, by determining the egg layer to be a small theropod (meat-eating) dinosaur.

The scientific detective work was conducted by University of Calgary (U of C) and Royal Tyrrell Museum researchers.

“Working out who the culprit was in this egg abandonment tragedy is a difficult problem to crack,” said Darla Zelenitsky, U of C paleontologist and the lead author of the research.

“After further investigation, we discovered that this find is rarer than we first thought. It is a one of a kind fossil. In fact, it is the first nest of its kind in the world,” she added.

Taliban claim Karzai govt’s executions infringe human rights!
