Dalai Lama urges China to respect Tibetans' human rightsTaipei  - Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama called on China to respect the Tibetan people's human right on Wednesday - Human Rights Day - in a message to a rights forum held in Taiwan.

The Dalai Lama sent the message to the international forum on human rights held by the Kaohsiung City government because he was unable to attend the seminar, attended by human rights activists from a dozen countries.

UN finds human-rights declaration has promising future

New York  - All its goals have not been achieved, but the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) remains even more relevant today than when it was adopted 60 years ago.

The United Nations will mark the mark the 60th anniversary on Wednesday of the UDHR, which came into force on December 10, 1948, in Paris, and represents the first comprehensive agreement among nations that outlined the specific rights and freedoms of all human beings.

The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva said in a statement that the principles of the UDHR have been reflected in the constitutions and laws of more than 90 countries.

First prototype of Mindset electric carSt. Niklausen, Switzerland - The Swiss car company, Mindset, has revealed a prototype of its E-Motion electric-drive vehicle 18 months after project started.

Designed by former Volkswagen styling chief and Mindset company founder Murat Guenak, the E-Motion sports car will undergo testing on public roads during the next few weeks, according to an announcement.

The prototype, built in France by the car parts supplier Heuliez, features round retro headlamps and 22-inch wheels with ultra-low profile tyres and a coupe-station wagon design.

Measuring just under three metres in length, the iQ is 29 cm longer than the Smart but seats four people.

Average fuel consumption is listed at 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres with carbon dioxide emissions under 100 grams per kilometre. The three-cylinder engine has an output of 68 hp with a top speed of 150 km/h.

Hong Kong leader's popularity slumps as economic woes deepenHong Kong  - The popularity of Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang has slumped to an all-time low as the economic crisis takes its toll on the wealthy former British colony, a survey found Wednesday.

The popularity rating of Beijing-appointed Tsang fell from 54.5 points out of 100 in November to 50.2 points in December, his lowest score since taking office in 2005.
