Ryanair wins EU court case over Charleroi airport

Ryanair LogoLuxembourg - Ryanair won a court case against the European Commission on Wednesday, meaning the low-cost airline will not have to pay back millions of euros in subsidies that it received from the Belgian state for establishing a base at Charleroi Airport.

Ryanair obtained favourable terms from the Wallonia Region when negotiating its first continental base at Charleroi, in 2000.

These included a 50 per cent discount on landing charges and compensation for any loss of profit arising from subsequent hikes in such charges.

US asks Pak to continue assisting India to investigate Mumbai attacks

Ajmal Amir Kasab, PakistanIslamabad, Dec 17 : The United States has asked Pakistan to continue providing all necessary cooperation to investigate the Mumbai terror attacks.

State Department spokesman Robert Wood said: Pakistan should continue to "provide all the co-operation necessary with regards to Mumbai investigation."

Wood said The United Sates wanted continued dialogue between India and Pakistan to promote regional stability and urged the nuclear-armed neighbours to ease tensions following the Mumbai attacks through co-operative efforts.

Katie Holmes takes time out to socialise

Holmes made an appearance at the low-key Christmas party that was being held at her downtown apartment building's lobby.

She stayed for a few minutes, even though the paparazzi have been camping close to it ever since her Broadway debut in "All My Sons".

"She was very nice, even though she always has the bodyguard with her," the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

ECB under rates pressure as Fed cuts and inflation falls

European Central Bank (ECB) LogoBerlin - European inflation fell sharply to 2.1 per cent in November, data released Wednesday showed, adding to the pressure on the European Central Bank (ECB) to press on with its interest-rate cutting cycle well into the new year.

The decline in the 15-member eurozone's annual inflation last month from 3.2 per cent in October came as falling oil and commodity prices helped to ease cost pressures.

The German statistics office also released figures confirming that inflation in Europe's biggest economy dropped to 1.4 per cent in November compared with 2.4 per cent in October.
