Lehmann rejects unsporting jibe after boot-throwing incident

Poland to enter euro's preparatory stage by June, minister says

Poland MapWarsaw - Poland will begin talks next month on entering the European Exchange Rate Mechanism 2 (ERM-2) and should join by May or June, deputy finance minister Ludwik Kotecki said in a TV interview on Monday.

A qualifying country is required to spend at least two years in ERM-2 and run a budget deficit no more than 3 per cent of GDP before it can drop its national currency and adopt the euro.

Brussels - Ambitious plans to kickstart the European Union's economy by putting 5 billion euros (6.3 billion dollars) of community funds into high-tech projects went back to the drawing board Monday, as EU foreign ministers argued over where the money should come from.

Ministers meeting in Brussels agreed that the money should not come out of the EU's budget for 2008, as had been originally proposed by the EU's executive, but failed to agree on alternative sources of funding, diplomatic sources said.
