New Delhi - A total of 109 witnesses including those from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and foreign experts will be examined to establish the complicity of the Pakistani gunman captured during the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the Indian prosecution said Saturday.

A total of 1,820 witnesses have been cited in the case but only 109 potential witnesses will be examined, public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam informed the special court in Mumbai, the PTI news agency reported.

Amman - The Central Bank of Jordan on Saturday cut basic interest rates by half a percentage point in the third such move since the advent of the global financial crisis in September.

The CBJ trimmed the rediscount rate to 5.25 per cent from 5.75 per cent and the repurchase rate (repo) to 5.00 per cent from 5.50 per cent.

In an attempt to ease the credit squeeze, the CBJ also cut the compulsory reserves deposited with the Central Bank by commercial banks by 1 percentage point, to 7 per cent from 8 per cent.

Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Struggling Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus is to repay fans the cost of their tickets after a 4-0 thrashing at Schalke 04 on Friday evening.

Around 600 fans who travelled to Gelsenkirchen for the match will get their money back from the players' kitty to compensate for the poor performance, the club said after the game.

"The real restitution will have to come in the next few matches," club general manager Steffen Heidrich said.

Tehran, Apr. 18 : An American-Iranian journalist has been jailed for eight years in Tehran after being accused of spying for the United States.

Her lawyer and family revealed that 31-year-old Roxana Saberi had been convicted and sentenced. She had been detained in a notorious Tehran prison since January and went on trial behind closed doors last Monday.

Saberi''s lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, said: "She has been sentenced to eight years. I will appeal."
