This meeting is an opportunity to fast track discussions on avoiding catastrophic warming and inject some much needed urgency and cooperation into the ongoing UN climate talks, which are dragging on at a snail's pace," said Karen Sack, Greenpeace International Political Director.

"I want to go back to my cell," Adem Yilmaz, 30, a Turkish citizen raised in Germany, called out at the start of the day's proceedings. He was duly ordered out of the courtroom. Yilmaz hugged his co- accused on the way out.

Kabul - An Afghan police official and 12 Taliban militants were killed near Kabul city, while four other policemen were killed by a roadside bomb in the eastern region, officials said Tuesday. The chief of the criminal section for the Mosayee district of Kabul province was killed by during a police operation in the district on Monday, an interior ministry statement said.
