Life on other planets will be found within 10 years: Mars explorer

Washington, Apr 25 : A University of Arizona professor, who led NASA''s Phoenix Mars Mission, has said that within 10 years life will be found outside Earth.

Peter Smith held the audience spellbound in his lecture, "Journey of the Phoenix," on April 16 at the University of Delaware, as he shared images taken by the Phoenix Mars Lander, which touched down in the Martian arctic on May 25, 2008.

The event was a collaboration of numerous agencies and academic institutions, including the University of Arizona''s Science Operations Center, NASA''s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Denver, along with scientific institutes in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and Switzerland.

Lowered HRT use may have led to fewer heart attacks in womenWashington, Apr 25 : With decline in the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopause symptoms, the rate of myocardial infarctions, or heart attacks, has also dropped, a new study has found.

However, there has been no decrease in the rate of strokes, the study published in the May issue of the journal Medical Care noted.

The study looked at whether the decreased use of HRT has affected the rate of cardiovascular health outcomes.

Drug improves health-related quality of life in nerve disease patients

Washington, Apr 25 : A new study has found that long-term treatment with Gamunex can significantly improve health-related quality of life in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).

CIDP is a debilitating nerve disease that results in progressive weakness in the arms and legs, causing significant disability for many individuals.

Gamunex is the first and only FDA-approved product for the treatment of CIDP.

The researchers showed that patients who received Gamunex experienced greater improvements in physical and mental component scores compared with placebo.

Clinton arrives in Iraq in unannounced visit

The trip - Clinton's first to Iraq as secretary of state - also comes after 48 hours of suicide bombings in Baghdad and other cities which have killed at least 155.
