Hyundai hikes prices with immediate effect; blame surge in input cost

Hyundai South Korean automaker Hyundai has increased the prices of its popular hatchbacks Santro, i10 and sedan Accent across all variants by up to Rs 14,636 with immediate effect to offset rise in input cost.

A company official said, "The price hike is primarily due to rise in input cost. The price hike ranges from 1.2% to 3%." It may be noted that recently, Maruti Suzuki, Honda Siel, Toyota Kirloskar and Ford Motor India had also decided to raise prices due to similar reasons. After the latest revision, the company's flagship hatchback Santro will be costlier by Rs 3,601 to Rs 5,163 while, its premium compact car i10 will now be dearer by Rs 3,974 to Rs 7,637.

In a latest move major Airlines (Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines) including low-cost carriers have withdrawn all promotional fares and increased basic fares by around Rs 2,000 on several sectors from Tuesday.

The companies have decided to stop the low-fare advance purchase (APEX) schemes, quoting that the airfares would now be decided by the market.

Export sector registered steep decline in January

About 425 staff members of company, out of 4,243 employees, mostly trainees or junior employees, have been put on 'virtual bench' for the next 12 months, in a bid to control the worsening situation aroused due to low demand and recession all around the world.

Profit for Q3 of Maruti falls 54.3 pct, lags forecastThe nation's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd recently announced that quarterly profit plunged by 54.3%, lagging forecasts in the midst of high raw material costs, lower volumes and adverse impact of currency changes.

On Thursday, New Delhi-based Maruti informed that its net profit plunged to 2.14 billion rupees ($43.8 million) in its fiscal Q3 ended December.

The company confirmed that there is a fall by 2.8% in the net sales to 46.26 billion rupees.
