Gas prices in Alabama lower than national average
With AAA having estimated that Thanksgiving day will likely witness the US national average gas price dropping to between $3.25 and $3.40 per gallon, holiday travelers in Alabama apparently have more to cheer about --- with the gas costs in the state already being lower than the country-wide average; and still falling further.
Going by the statistics shared by AAA in its fuel gauge report released on Tuesday, the average cost of one gallon of unleaded gas in Alabama was $3.22; and, in Tuscaloosa, the average was $3.21.
Ever since the state-wide average was calculated at $3.60 on September 1, Alabama has been witnessing a daily drop in the gas costs. Going by the Tuesday figures, the state's average gas price of $3.22 for one gallon of unleaded gas was the ninth-lowest average price in the country; with the lowest average price of $3.14 per unleaded gallon having been reported in Missouri.
Meanwhile, while AAA is hopeful that the gas prices across the US will continue to drop towards the end of the year, AAA Alabama spokesman Clay Ingram said that the average gas prices in the state should actually be lower than what they are.
Noting that the state average is "a bit misleading because there are a lot of stations out there that are way overpriced," Ingram said: "There are a lot selling a gallon for $3.05 and $3.10, but unfortunately there are others still charging $3.30 and $3.35."
