Sydney, Jan. 22 : Skipper Ricky Ponting believes Australia can no longer afford to pick its best squad for all future one-dayers because of the frantic schedule over the next two years.

According to Fox Sports, there are no significant breaks in Australia''s program until May 2010, which is likely to coincide with another IPL tournament.

From the beginning of the Indian Test tour last October, Australia will play 26 Tests and up to 54 one-day internationals and 20 Twenty20 internationals outside glorified domestic Twenty20 tournaments such as the IPL and Champions League.

Ponting claims the priority is to ensure players are fit for important Test tours against South Africa from next month and the Ashes mid-year.

"I think the players, Cricket Australia and the players'' association need to start prioritising which of the tournaments that we want to have the team as fit and raring to go as best we possibly can," Ponting said.

"As we know there are lot of one-off little one-day tournaments and some big Test series around those with South Africa over there and then the Ashes. The important thing for me is prioritising that and making sure we have all the players that are taking part in those big Test series as fit and ready to go for those," he added.

Ponting also dismissed concerns about the IPL, claiming Australian players had almost no time to be part of the Indian extravaganza because of a rescheduled one-day series against Pakistan from mid-April to mid-May which is likely to be played at a neutral venue. (ANI)
