Former Indonesian President no more, Singapore leaders expresses shock

Abdurrahman-WahidLeaders from Singapore have expressed shock over the demise of former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, terming him a visionary and very efficient politician of the country.

Top Singapore leadership including President S R Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and some other ministers had conveyed condolence to the bereaved family.

In a letter written to Abdurrahman Wahid's widow Shinta Nuriyah Wahid, President Nathan remembered his role in the democratization of the country and credited him for turning Indonesia as a moderate Islamic democracy. He said that the departed soul played a key role for carrying out reforms and upholding inter-faith harmony in the society.

Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong also remembered his association with the Mr. Abdurrahman and said that he played a key role for bring democracy in Indonesia. He further said that Mr. Abdurrahman has a sense of humour and he knew very well to get his work done.
