Ford Mustang Mach-E & F-150 Lightning sales slip in July 2023
Total vehicle sales of Ford and its luxury brand Lincoln in the United States grew nearly 6 per cent year-over-year in July this year, but sales of the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning pickup truck worsened.
In July 2023, Ford and Lincoln sold a total of 173,639 vehicles in the United States, up 5.9 per cent from the corresponding month of 2022. During the first seven months of this year, total sales jumped 9.4 per cent to settle at 1,181,207 units. To be more specific, Ford sold 166,978 vehicles (up 6.4 per cent) in July and 1,135,488 vehicles (up 10.3 per cent) in the first seven months of this year.
Lincoln sold 6,661 vehicles in July and (down 4.4 per cent) and 45,719 vehicles in the first seven months (down 8.3 per cent). Thus, total sales last month and YTD settled at 173,639 and 1,181,207 vehicles, up 5.9 per cent and 9.4 per cent, respectively.
The aforementioned results represent an improvement (overall) year-over-year, but the all-electric vehicle segment’s results disappointed the company and market analysts.
Last month, Ford BEV sales declined 18 per cent to settle at 6,280 units. The sales figure represents roughly 3.8 per cent of the brand's total sales volume. In July 2022, it was recorded at 4.9 per cent.
Many market analysts were expecting Ford to report improved sales, but the American brand couldn’t beat July 2022, which was a record month with total sales of 7,669 units. On the positive side of the equation, the company is steadily improving its sales on monthly basis since March of this year. If the improvement in sales continues, the company can be expected to report even better results in the next few months.
When it comes to models, the Ford Mustang Mach-E as well as the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck noted a year-over-year decline in sales, while the Ford E-Transit cargo van managed to attract more buyers. More precisely, Ford sold 3,937 units of the Ford Mustang Mach-E in July, down 21 per cent year-over-year. Sales of the Ford F-150 Lightning slipped 29 per cent to settle at 1,552 units. On the other hand, sales of the Ford E-Transit cargo van increased 50 per cent to 791 units.
Unfortunately, neither Ford nor its luxury brand Lincoln reported sales of plug-in models, such as the Ford Escape PHEV.
