Ford employee and his son set New Hot Wheels Loop Record

Ford Motor Co. workers celebrated ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’ on Thursday by breaking a world record.

On a ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’, a 6-year-old Blade West helped his Ford employee dad in breaking a world record for the largest Hot Wheels ramp.

On the second try, a tiny Hot Wheels car completed a loop with a diameter of 3.81 meters successfully, beating the old record of 3.01m.

On Friday (NZ time), in the US, Blade and dad Matt West were cheered by a crowd of other Ford employees and their children at the automaker's Research and Innovation Centre in Dearborn, Michigan.

Matt, 33, said that it was really cool, breaking the record on Take Your Child to Work Day. Matt was hired by Ford in December following six years as a contract worker for the automaker. He is a dynamometer technician, and has been studying to become an engineer.

Blade West said that he never had any doubt, especially after helping his dad in building the loop and picking the Hot Wheels cars to test it.

Further, he showed some test cars that got damaged in dramatic attempts to navigate the giant loop and suffered spectacular falls.

West mentioned that the trick was to use cars with the right dimensions and weight to stay on the track. He said that at the time of formal attempt, two of the first 10 cars were successful.

There was proper documentation in the event, and the proof of the number of loops that completed successfully will be sent to the Guinness World Records officials for verification. It could take some months.
