Farmers To Get Nano In Five Years
At the Second edition of Nano Technology today, the experts explained that the Indian farmers will have to wait for five years to see the benefits of Nanotechnology, which promised immense possibilities for agriculture.
“Nanotechnology promised immense possibilities for agriculture. Nano sensors in plants could detect disease and provide nano medication. Use of this technology could reduce agricultural waste and thus could reduce pollution. Nano lamination could improve the shelf life of fruits and vegetables,” said Prof Basavaraj Madhusudhan of Kuvempu University, who spoke his viewpoints on the occasion.
He further added, “These applications would reach farmers in the country in five years.”
It was further informed by Dr R Kalpana Sastry of National Academy of Agricultural Research Management that a total of 44 countries are working on Nanotechnology in food and agriculture. However, most of the activities are in the early stage.
The Department of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) and M M Activ Sci-Tech Communications, jointly organize the three-day 'Bangalore Nano 2008'.
