retiredWho says life after retirement is boring? Glenn McGrath has a lot of time on his hands since retiring two years ago, but is having no trouble in keeping himself occupied. For now, he is busy connecting with nature — enjoying fishing with his kids, exploring islands and spending time at the farm. The Hindustan Times chatted with the Delhi Daredevils pacer on his comeback since IPL 2008 and life beyond cricket.

How does it feel to be bowling at competitive level again?

It is obviously a good feeling to be back. I don’t know how long I will be doing this though I still have another year left in my contract. I’m happy with the way I bowled the other night when I picked two wickets. But I don’t think I will be bowling in any other format of the game. I am happily retired.

Was the call-up to play for Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League a shock to you? Especially, since you didn’t play a single game at the IPL in South Africa?

Yes it was. I have been overseas and spending time with my family. When I got the call, I was actually going on a holiday with my kids.

You’ve been busy with your cancer foundation. How is the work coming along? Are you getting a lot of help from the other cricketers?

My foundation is doing some amazing work. The response we have got has been incredible. Right now we are looking at starting cancer hospitals all over Australia. Both senior and local cricketers have been very happy to help. Even in India, people have approached me, which to me is amazing

Was there a part of you that wanted to prove that McGrath still had it in him to deliver at this level?

Not really. When I look back at my career, I think I have achieved everything. I don’t think I have a point to prove to anyone. I am here to help my team in every way I can

Is it true that you’re going to be bowling coach of New South Wales?

I don’t know where that came from. There’s no truth in it. I was talking to the NSW guys the other day and I don’t know what people made out of it. I will be happy to help the boys but there’s nothing official..

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I will be back home with my kids. My life is currently split into three sections — looking after my two kids, my job as an ambassador for a few endorsements and my foundation work. It’s a very happy balance.
