Washington, Dec 20 : Emma Watson has claimed the title of top feminist for the year 2014.

In a Ms. Foundation for Women online poll conducted in partnership with Cosmopolitan. com, the 24-year-old British star got most votes, beating actress Laverne Cox, who came second, E! Online reported.

The Top 10 2014 feminists, based on the poll are:

1. Emma Watson . Laverne Cox . Rachel Maddow . Beyonce . Cher . Amy Poehler . Tina Fey . Meryl Streep . Mindy Kaling 0. Ann Curry

Watson had delivered a powerful speech at the U. N as Women's Goodwill Ambassador back in September had touched people's heart, when she helped launch the HeForShe gender equality campaign.

Ms. Foundation President and CEO Teresa Younger issued a statement, saying that "though they celebrate all feminists every day, they were giving a hat tip to celebrities who had been helping to promote women's equality, and every celebrity on the list had either embraced the term ' feminist,' spoken out for women's equal rights, or battled against sexist oppression."
