Emma Watson bullied for "boring, whining, leftie" speech at UN
Washington D.C. [USA], Sept. 24 : Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, Emma Watson made a respectable call for gender equality in a recent speech at 'HeForShe' campaign in New York but a UK tabloid daily took it as a means to make fun of the Hollywood actresses.
In a clip from 'The Sun' newspaper, (which was captured by Louise Ridley and posted on Twitter), the writer, Rod Liddle, condemns Watson for her "boring, whining, leftie, PC crap," adding that it was something "all actresses do if we are stupid enough to give them the chance," reports E! Online.
The 56-year-old English journalist, in the message, suggests that the 'Harry Potter' actress, 'Hermione Granger' should "stick to telling the rules of Quidditch or how to turn someone into a frog."
Also admitting that he does not object to the actresses having views, he does not understand "why we take them seriously."
HeForShe is a solidarity campaign for gender equality initiated by UN Women. Its goal is to engage men and boys as agents of change for the achievement of gender equality by encouraging them to take action against negative inequalities faced by women and girls.
The 26-year-old British actress and activist, in her speech at New York, challenged universities to provide "equal respect, leadership and pay" in order to "tell women that their brain power is valued."
She also encouraged universities to "make it clear" that the safety of women is "a right and not a privilege." (ANI)
