Elton John likens himself to ‘Billy Elliot’
New York, Nov 15 : English pop/rock singer Elton John has revealed that he sees similarity between his life and that of Billy Elliot’s, a fictional character in the West End stage show Billy Elliot the Musical.
According to the New York Post, John, whose father never approved of his musical career, discussed the parallels between his life and that of the ballet dancing, coal miner''s son who traded in his boxing gloves for a pair of ballet shoes.
John is still overwhelmed by the story as he discussed it over lunch at Michael''s with his husband David Furnish, who co-produced the show, and Stephen Daldry, who directed it, plus Joe Armstrong and Barbara Walters.
The show, which was a smash hit in London’s West End for the last three years, got a standing ovation when it opened in New York on November 14.
The musical numbers for the show were by John himself, and when the second act came by, after 13-year-old Trent Kowalik finished the show’s signature number ‘Electricity’, the crowd was rooting, cheering, and screaming for Kowalik, Daldry and John.
“This is my fourth show, after Aida, The Lion King, and Lestat. And now I know how to do it. I feel like I want to do another, even though I don’t know what it will be. But now I know how to do it,” Fox News quoted John as saying. (ANI)
