Elon Musk's SpaceX to Try Fourth Launch Attempt on Tuesday

After three unsuccessful launch attempts, tech magnate Elon Musk’s SpaceX confirmed that it will target its fourth attempt to launch a satellite, SES-9, into space from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Tuesday. An 11-minute launch window has been scheduled to be opened at 6:35 pm and close at 8:05 pm.

The launch window for the fourth launch attempt is an earlier window compared to the previous failed attempts on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings. SpaceX believes the change in timing may give it a better chance to escape upper-level winds.

In an e-mail, Phil Larson, senior manager for communications at SpaceX, said, “The slight shift in launch window... gives us a better chance of avoiding upper-level wind issues, which will remain a watch item. The window extends to 8:05 pm”.

The 45th Weather Squadron announced a launch forecast where it said that there are 80% chances of favorable weather at Launch Complex 40. Cumulus clouds could be a problem, it added.

About the aborted launch on Sunday evening, the company CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that a boat sailed into the restricted zone near the coastal launch pad which forced the company to call-off the launch due to technical issue. It was terminated on low thrust alarm, Musk tweeted.

Before the Sunday’s aborted launch, the countdown on Thursday was stopped at 6:45 pm, just two minutes before the rocket’s liftoff.

SpaceX said that it will try to land the rocket on an ocean barge after delivering its payload. Space experts believe if the company succeeds in its mission, it will reach one step closer to its future space missions. SpaceX is aiming at ambitious mission to Mars with reusable rockets. As per industry experts, if SpaceX tastes success in the barge landing, it may use the technique to cut cost of future missions.
