Election Commission to review Himachal Pradesh poll preparedness

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. GopalaswamiShimla, Dec 13: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. Gopalaswami alongwith two Election Commissioners Dr. S Y Qureshi and Navin Chawla will review the poll preparations for the second phase of Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh today.

The second phase of election will be held on December 19.

During their visit, the team will meet representatives of the political parties, senior civil and police officials and election observers.

According to sources, the team will interact with representatives of the six recognised national political parties in the state.

The Commission will also hold a comprehensive meeting with the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector Generals and District Magistrates and Senior Superintendent of Police to assess the security arrangements.

The Election Commission has already declared December 22 as reserve day for repoll if necessary.

The second phase of polling in 65 constituencies will take place on December 19.

The first phase of polling was held in three tribal constituencies of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti and Bharmour on November 14.

The counting of votes will take place on December 28.

The term of the State Assembly is due to expire on March 9, 2008. (ANI)
