Duncan drops in 32, Spurs down Mavs in double overtime thriller

Los Angeles - The calendar reads December, but to Texas powerhouses San Antonio and Dallas, an early season Western Conference match-up felt more like an intense spring playoff game.

Tim Duncan scored eight of his season-record tying 32 points in the second overtime and grabbed 14 rebounds, carrying the San Antonio Spurs to a thrilling 133-126 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night.

"Yeah, yeah it was (like a playoff game) from beginning to end," Duncan said. "It was double overtime, just a great game by both teams, fighting through ups and downs."

Frenchman Tony Parker had 29 points with 10 assists, while Argentine Manu Ginobili netted 18 points for San Antonio (12-8) winners in seven of its last nine games.

German juggernaut Dirk Nowitzki had 35 points with 10 rebounds, while Jason Kidd added a season-high 24 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds for Dallas (11-9) which lost for just the second time in the last 11 games.

"It's tough, especially the way we have been playing," Kidd said. "I think anybody that watched the game, or participated in it, would say this was a great game. Nobody wanted to lose, nobody wanted to go home. We had our chances but came up a little short in the end."

In the second overtime, the Spurs led by one when Nowitzki's cross-court pass was intercepted by Roger Mason. However, Kidd stole it back and made a layup with 2:09 remaining, giving the Mavericks their last lead, 125-124.

Duncan, however, spotted defensive ace Bruce Bowen, who buried a three-pointer - his only points of the game - putting the Spurs on top for good, 127-125 with 1:47 remaining.

"That's Bruce's shot," Duncan said. "We've been making that pass and catch and shot for a lot of years now."

After Dallas' Erick Dampier split a pair of free throws, Duncan powered in for a layup at the 41 second mark to make it 129-126.

Mason was intentionally fouled and sank both free throws. He added two more after Nowitzki misfired a three-pointer to seal the dramatic victory.
