DRDO Confirms Successful Maiden Test of Missile Prahaar
On Tuesday morning, Chanidpur, Orissa, had witnessed the successful maiden flight test of a quick-reaction, short range tactical missile enabled with a range of 150 km. The missile scientists of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted the test for ‘Prahaar’ at 8.15 a. m. from Launch Complex-III at ITR.
Experts have developed the system as a substitute to unguided rockets of short range. The new system is anticipated to be operational in the Army and to replace the unguided Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher that has a range of around 40 kilometers as well as Smerch with that of 90 km. Soon after the launch, the DRDO sources have confirmed that the mission was a big success.
"The new missile completed its trajectory in a very short time. It performed considerably well with respect to navigation, control, guidance, propulsion and structure”, stated the Defense Research and Development Organization Chief, V. K. Saraswat.
V. K. Saraswat, also serving as the Scientific Advisor to the Defense Minister, has also made his presence on the launch and said that the 7.8 meter long and 1.2 tones missile possess high maneuverability and acceleration and can be used for hitting both strategic and tactical targets.
