Delhi court issues fresh warrant to Abu Salem
New Delhi, Sep 27 : A Delhi city court today issued a fresh production warrant against Abu Salem in connection with an extortion case that was registered in the capital in 2002.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain asked the Mumbai jail authorities to produce the extradited gangster in the court on October 15.
The Special Cell of the Delhi police has charged Salem and his alleged associates Ishtiyaq Ahmed and Chander Prakash with attempt to extort and criminal intimidation.
They are accused of making extortion calls to a Delhi-based businessman, Rajat Nagrath, demanding a ransom of one crore rupees.
Salem is in Arthur Road jail in Mumbai, while Ahmed and Prakash are lodged in Bhopal jail.
Salem is also wanted in connection with a 1998 case that was registered by the Hauz Khas police station.
The underworld don, Salem, was extradited from Portugal along with his companion Monica Bedi to face trial in eight cases. (With inputs from ANI)
