According to reports, federal officials were making efforts to know how to remove a deceased whale, which was spotted in the Oakland Estuary off an Alameda dock. It is required to remove the dead whale as it could interrupt Port of Oakland traffic.

According to US Coast Guard Lt. J.G. Aulner, there are possibilities that whale was pulled into San Francisco Bay from the ocean by a container ship. It was unclear whether the animal died after colliding with a ship, or stumbled upon after its death.

According to Aulners, crew members were not able to realize that they had dragged the mammal through the Golden Gate. As per the reports, the whale was spotted near the Marina Village area of Alameda.

According to Marine Mammal Center public relations specialist Laura Sherr, scientists from the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito have not identified the species, or measured the whale.

The researchers also took photos and collected tissue samples from the animal; however, they were not able to see its head.
