DataWind wins Most Innovative award from UK government

DataWind wins Most Innovative award from UK governmentTechnology device maker, DataWind has won the award for UK's "Most Innovative Mobile Company" from the British government.

DataWind, which is the manufacture of low-cost Aakash tablet for Indian students, beat the competition from rivals including blippar, P2i and Qrpedia in the competition organized by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) under the Smart UK Project 2012.

The UKTI has been looking for county's most innovative mobile company since November 2011 for the Smart UK Project 2012. It announced its decision at Mobile World Congress at Barcelona. The UKTI is a unit of the UK government that helps companies from the country to succeed in the global market.

Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind said, "We are honoured to be recognised; it is a great validation of our vision and I hope this will help create greater impetus for UK innovation."

The Fast Company has already named DataWind among the Top 50 most innovative companies in the world. The Indian government plans to purchase and offer 100,000 units of the Android device to students in the county for free.
