DARPA Identifies Key Areas for Technological Improvement

A new report has revealed that biotechnology, big data and undersea systems are among the areas that have been identified by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as key to move America's technology forward.

Bi-annual ‘Breakthrough Technologies for National Security’ report of the agency works as an analysis of latest DARPA work. It also works as a guide for what areas the agency look forward to invest in over the coming years.

DARPA director Arati Prabhakar said, “All of those are signs of a Defense Department that is taking a fresh look at the world. There is need to take that fresh look again after this intense period of particular focus on two ground wars”.

As per the report, the US remains a leader in several technological areas and other nations putting efforts to close that gap.

Steven Walker, deputy director for the agency said that for DARPA, the new look is manifesting itself in some internal inspection on how to accelerate processes to keep speed with quick innovation around the globe, inside and outside the defense sector.

Walker also said that the speed at which they can develop and field new military systems is actually very essential for who wins the next war. DARPA has concentrated on thinking again that how they develop new military systems. According to Walker, presently some of the systems are very capable. They are also very difficult, and costly as well as they take a long time to develop.
