Corporate Highlights

Budget airline GoAir is planning to raise Rs 400-500 crore via an initial public offer to repay debt and buy more aircraft. The Mumbai-based airline owned by the Wadia group is in talks with investment banks such as Enam Financials to manage the offer and JM Financial is advising the airline.

Spanco Ltd has won Goa State Electricity Board's information technology modernisation project worth Rs 850 million. The company had earlier won similar IT modernization projects in Punjab, Maharashtra and Bihar.

Indian power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals has secured contracts worth Rs 78 crore ($17 million) to set up three solar photovoltaic power plants. The orders are to be completed in 2011.

Adani Enterprise Ltd-run Adani Power Ltd (APL) has synchronized the country's first supercritical unit of 660-MW power plant, taking its coal power generation capacity to 1980 MW.

Economic Updates

India's food price index rose 12.13 per cent while the fuel price index climbed 10.74 per cent in the year to December 11, government data on Thursday showed. In the prior week, annual food and fuel inflation stood at 9.46 per cent and 10.67 per cent respectively. The primary articles price index was up 15.35 per cent in the latest week compared with an annual rise of 13.25 per cent a week earlier.
